100 days 100 drawings

22nd February

Leading on from my paintings with very little detail I was inspired to add in my little sketch book a drawing/sketch/painting I liked from researching/reading about Mark Rothko. I watched a speech from the internet broadcast from Germany by his son. It was very interesting to hear about his life’s work and his paintings. I was inspired by the depth of meaning by these particularly late large paintings of blocks of colour.

23rd February

A sketch copied from Mark Rothko, a homage to Matisse on the year of his death. The colours remind me of Van Gogh’s small bedroom. These sketches are not necessarily about refining my technique but more about learning why we paint, what we paint and how we go about it.
